Halloween Party

Our first Halloween party was a success!  We had a lot of fun and the dogs did too.  We had a small crowd, but it was perfect!  Everyone got eats and treats, socialized and played games.  We had a couple of guests dress up with their dogs and won prizes too!

Here are some photos of the party

Monk

Well, it has been 1 week since we got the new pup.  He is doing wonderful and potty training is going VERY well.  He's had only 3 accidents.  Monk is a sweet little guy with one heck of a personality.  He exudes friendliness and playfullnes.  He is just a ray of sunshine.  He loves the cool fall days and isn't yet overly fond of the crate, but is doing well.  We've been doing a regular schedule and crating so he gets used to it on a regular basis.  He and Twister are enjoying playing together.  Tinker isn't too sure of him yet - he isn't yet sure of her either for that matter.  Hunter doesn't really care.

Monk already knows sit and we're working on letting us put the collar and leash on without a fight.  He is so wiggly!  He is sometimes defiant but were working on that too!

New member of the "crew"

We are getting a new puppy - and no, it is isn't a basenji!  I know, you are all shocked.  I love them, don't get me wrong, but I've wanted a Siberian Husky for a while.  PLUS I've heard they are a lot like a basenji in temperment.  I'm hoping he'll get along with both Twister and Tinker.  Hunter won't care who he is, he won't want to play with him.

The pup is 11 weeks old (almost 12 weeks) and a beautiful boy.  We will be posting photos of him shortly.  We are going to do confirmation and agility with him.  His name is "Monk".  Likely it'll turn into "Monkey".

We are getting him tomorrow!  EXCITED!

Our Agility Results for 10/11/09

Well, we did the CPE show today in Dexter, MI.  We entered for 5 runs.  Tinker was ready.  I was ready.  We did pretty good for the first show in 2 years.

Our first run was for the game Jackpot.  Tinker did really well, qualified, and took first place!

Our second run was for the game Standard.  She didn't qualify but got 3rd place.

Our third run was round one of the game Wildcard.  Tinker qualified and took 1st place again!

About this time it was getting late and she was TIRED!  Me too.

Our 4th run was the 2nd round of the game Wildcard and we took a NT/NQ because she was being a bubblehead!  That's ok though...she did good and we had fun.

Now we know next time she needs to have a shorter day!

Here is a photo from the show today.

Oct 11 Agility Trial

Tinker and I will be entering an agility trial on 10/11 in Dexter, MI.  We're so excited.  We haven't competed in quite some time (about 2 years).  She and I have been going to classes for the past 8 weeks or so and she is doing GREAT!  I'm hoping she'll do her best that day...oh, who am I kidding...I hope I do my best since she takes all her ques from me!

GO TINKER!

Zoe & Suzie

Zoe & Suzie are getting adopted!  Finally, we have placed these 2 sweet girls and they will be going to their new home on 10/17!  YEAH!

Wish 'em luck

Rescue dog needs a new home

Meet Shelly!  She is a sweet 1 yr old german shephard/beagle mix (best we can tell).  She is such a love.  We found her as a stray and she had no identification.  She is fully vaccinated and will be getting spayed shortly.  She is very gentle, quite loving and an all around wonderful little lady.  Shelly weighs 51 lbs and is in good health.  If you are interested in adopting Shelly, please contact us!  We are looking to get her into a new home before the holidays!  If you'd like to sponsor her spay surgery, please let us know too!  She will need $150.

Updates...

This summer has been quite busy.  We've had many boarders coming and going, as well as fosters.

We have 2 fosters left, Zoe & Suzie and they will be going to their new home on the 17th of October.

We are very excited for them.

Now that summer is winding down, school is back in session, and winter is approaching we are working on agility yet again with Tinker.  We may try Twister too.  We have a competition coming up on Oct. 11 in Dexter, MI that we are quite exctited about.  Wish us luck.

We will likely be taking a break from fostering and volunteer work for a while to catch up and focus on other endeavors.  We will cross post rescues throughout the year for your enjoyment too.

Keep checking back as our blog will get updated regularly.

We're BACK!

My mom, Twister and I got back a few days ago and mom is back in Colorado.  The trip went very well and Twister did beautifully!  We went to Boston, Salem, and Cape Cod after the convention.  We had a great time!  We drove straight through on the way home.  We were exhausted!

Dave took care of the kennel and all the visitors while I was gone.  He did a GREAT job - Thanks a million David!  We, of course, are going to be full again over the 4th of July, but that is a wonderful feeling!

Business is picking up, as we expected it would over the summer.  We're hoping for more full weekends through the end of the year and over the holidays.

BRAT Convention Wrap Up

Well, today was very busy and full of events, excitement and surprises!

We had a couple of meetings this morning and then some free time.  Twister and I went to the dog park in Syracuse with some others and their dogs.  He, and the others, had so much fun.  He did very well.  He even met a great dane!  It was fun to see them all running loose together.

Afterwards we came back and he took a nap while I went to lunch with some other BRAT moms and dads.  We had the banquet this evening.

The banquet was good and then we had the awards and the raffle.

I got a special recognition award from BRAT and was surprised.  This is truly a labor of love - for me and all the wonderful volunteers.  Mom and I both won a bunch of stuff in the raffle and were tickled pink.

Twister is tuckered out and sleeping, and I'm doing some laundry before our departure to Boston in the morning.

Dave is busy at the kennel and taking care of our guests.  He reported that our rotty guests have departed and were perfect little angels.  Zoe and Suzie (our fosters) and Charlotte are all well too.

He said Tinker and Hunter miss us as well.  We'll be home soon and have lots of new guests we're expecting for the summer.
